Oracle has posted a tabular list of Supported Virtualization and Partitioning Technologies for Oracle Database and RAC Product Releases that identifies those virtualization/partitioning technologies already supported and reaffirms the policies that each new OS and its complementary virtualization/partitioning technology, must be certified by Oracle and, further, that each new OS plus its virtualization/partitioning solution must be guaranteed by the appropriate hardware vendor to be backward compatible to the version listed in the tables cited in the above link.

The new maintenance update release of Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.08 will make Mac users, among others, happy in that the bug causing OS freeze-ups in MacBooks and MacPros is now fixed. Bill Nesheim, Chris Armes, and Joost Pronk join host Charley Boyle in this episode of Oracle: In a Class by Itself to discuss Oracle Solaris 11 Behind the Scenes with Product Management, explaining how the solution has been (is being) developed. "A Database Detour" is the title Antony Reynolds gives his blog on running Oracle Database 11gR2 on Oracle Enterprise Linux 6, where he provides the details involved in building a new VirtualBox environment and then installing the as yet uncertified database on OEL6. Because he is a "middleware guy" Reynolds explains that he set the database to automatically start along with the OS. He provides the code samples used in this installation which, when completed, allowed him to take a snapshot of the VM and to start building an SOA installation.

In Oracle vs. Google, round one, the judge has declared advantage Oracle, reports Cade Metz in "The Register." The judge has ruled for Oracle on the definition of four of the five patent terms in question, Metz writes, adding that for the fifth term, the jurist provided his own definition. In a "claims construction" ruling such as this one, the court attempts to settle disputes by clarifying the technical terms used in patents. A decision remains to be made on additional terms in the case, which is not expected to go to trial until November of this year.
