• RESTful error handling with Tomcat and SpringMVC 3.x

    Updated: 2011-10-31 14:13:00
Handling errors in a REST way is seemingly simple enough: upon requesting a resource, when an error occurs, a proper status code and a body that contains a parseable message and using the content-type of the request should be returned. The default error pages in Tomcat are ugly. Not only they expose too much of [...]

  • Grails – Groovy – Alternative to HttpBuilder – adding headers to your HTTP request

    Updated: 2011-10-30 04:50:54
Developing with Grails and Groovy can be a blessing and and pain all at the same time. For example, when you include the module “HttpBuilder”in your project you may run into issues with Xerces and xml-apis, especially when you attempt to deploy the...

  • Book Review: Java The Complete Reference, 8th Edition

    Updated: 2011-10-05 03:59:18
This is a great place to start learning Java. I think the book is good for beginners to start learning Java, as well as great reference for those experienced with Java. The book does not use an IDE to create, compile, and run the programs. It uses javac and java commands to compile and run. I used both the SDK command lines and the IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition to compile and run the programs. Both worked fine, but I also have an interest in learning to use IntelliJ IDEA. The book covers the Java language, the Java Library, Software Development with Java Beans, Swing, Servlets, and ends with building 2 sample applications. <pread more
